Kevin,

Just got back home to North Bethesda, MD after the terrific International Storytelling festival in Jonesborough, TN. Your segments were terrific - my wife and I laughed and cried and were touched for good by your perspectives. I bought "The Dog Says How" CDs to relish the weekend and your warmth. Even though my hockey stories were from Massapequa, Long Island and not Minnesota, I couldn't help feeling so much of my childhood all over again.

Thanks for your suggestions today when I stopped by to say hello to you after your Sunday session in Jonesborough. I asked "How does an aspiring storyteller get started?" You reminded me to style my writing after someone I like - you said you'd chosen Donald Davis way back. You've given me many ideas.

My wife and I couldn't figure out if your style had elements of Sedaris, Rockwell, Leave it to Beaver and/or Woody Allen. Nonetheless, it is uniquely you and we loved it.

Will you be in DC, Maryland or Virginia any time soon? If so, give a shout. We'd love to know your storytelling schedule and we'd be happy to welcome you here.

All the best,
James McKenna

My sister says you live in our old house on Garfield.

I cracked up when I first heard your stories on NPR. I got your book around here somewhere.

Keep up the good work!

Kevin,
My high functioning autistic son and I have enjoyed your work since we heard you on NPR talking about your accident recovery. He has learned a great deal about emotion and understanding of others from you. I often play your thoughts upon tasting that apple to my high school creative writing students to give them an idea of what it means to convey emotion and sensation. My son has memorized several of your stories from Stories off the Shallow End. The Christmas story is his favorite. Please know that your work has brought us joy and laughter. We appreciate you enormously! Thanks!

Thanks for everything Kevin,

I too was on the receiving end of the fine care at HCMC, 42 days worth. Had my talk with the gate keeper, my uncle Tony was there & told me to go back, so I did. Now nothing seems so bad anymore, I know it's going to be OK.

Hello, Kevin Kling --

I'm wondering if you might be available for and interested in delivering a guest lecture to the U of M's "Intro to Creative Writing" class in the fall. Class meets on Wednesday afternoons, and I'm piecing a schedule together and looking for a "nonfiction speaker" on either November 12 or November 19. If that might be a possibility for you, would you let me know, and I'll provide you with more details? Your book looks great, by the way (haven't read it yet, but hope to soon).
